Class of 2022 to start mid-year exams on Monday
The Department of Basic Education has declared itself ready to administer the May/June exams.
The mid-year exams are due to start on Monday.
A total of 290 682 candidates will sit for the mid-year examinations comprising of candidates registered for both the National Senior Certificate and the Senior Certificate qualifications.
This includes the candidates who sat for the National Senior Certificate in 2021 and in previous years but did not attain the full requirements of the qualification.
The Senior Certificate candidates are adult candidates that are over 21 years and have completed a minimum of Grade 7 or ABET Level IV.
Spokesperson Terence Kahala urged candidates to report any irregularities to the school principal.
"These candidates will be sitting for the examinations at 5 236 examination centres, across the country. The Department of Basic Education has learnt valuable lessons from the previous examinations and is therefore confident in administering this examination, successfully.
"The department is fully aware that the majority of our learners are honest and will comply with these rules so that we eradicate any irregular practice that may rear its head in this examination."
Last year the department conceded that some Grade 12 final exam papers were leaked.
