Competition Commission deputy robbed after being followed from OR Tambo airport
South Africa’s Competition Commission has confirmed reports that its deputy commissioner, Hardin Ratshisusu, was a victim of an armed robbery in Johannesburg on Thursday night on his return from business in Botswana.
Ratshisusu tweeted police minister Fikile Mbalula, saying: “Just been robbed at gunpoint from the airport, on Africa Day. Criminals terrorising us. Matter reported to South Africa Police Service (SAPS).”
The Commission’s spokesperson, Sipho Ngwema, said in a statement that Ratshisusu was mugged at gunpoint at the entrance of his complex in Midrand as he was getting off a shuttle from OR Tambo International Airport.
“It seems he was followed from the airport. He was not harmed but all his belongings were taken during the traumatic incident. The deputy commissioner was returning from a Southern African Development Community (SADC) competition meeting in Botswana,” Ngwema said.
“The Commission has activated all the relevant security interventions and is in contact with police ministry in this regard. SAPS is investigating the matter and all further inquiries should be referred to the SAPS.”

Ratshisusu has worked in the regulatory field with over 10 years’ experience in the competition regulatory environment in the public and private sector.
In his role as acting deputy commissioner, Ratshisusu is responsible for the Commission’s investigative and enforcement activities. He has oversight over the cartels, mergers and acquisitions, enforcement and acquisitions, policy and research and legal services divisions.
