Concern over falling Gauteng dam levels
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Department of Water and Sanitation says the Vaal Dam is reaching critical levels week-on-week and everyone will have to save water to prevent the situation from getting worse.
The Integrated Vaal River System, which comprises of 14 dams including the Vaal dam, declined from 63.7% to 63.3% week-on-week.
This while the Vaal Dam itself declined from 43.4% to 42.6% over the past week.

The department’s Sputnik Ratau says the situation is worsened by the dry winter season.
“The decline is part of the normal winter season. Once the rainy season for the inland provinces ends at the end of April we continue to see a decline.
"There will be plateauing from the end of April until May. The only thing we get concerned about is if that decline is at a certain percentage week-on-week.’’
