ConCourt set to rule on Zuma’s rescission application
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
The Constitutional Court will rule on former President Jacob Zuma’s rescission application on Friday.
In July, Zuma applied to the apex court to review its judgment that convicted him of contempt and sentenced him to 15 months in prison.
Zuma served time the Estcourt prison in KwaZulu-Natal before being granted medical parole this month.
His discharge from a military hospital will kept under wraps.
During a hearing in July, Zuma’s counsel Dali Mpofu was at pains to argue that the court failed in upholding Zuma's rights to freedom, security without just cause, and the right to a fair trial, to be presumed innocent, to remain silent, and to testify during the proceedings which are contained in Section 35 of the Constitution.
Weeks after Mpofu presented his final argument, the ConCourt says it’s ready to deliver a verdict.

Zuma’s incarceration sparked days of unrest in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal which saw massive damage to property and infrastructure, as well as wanton looting of retail stores, food chains, malls and warehouses.
More than 300 people lost the lives in the chaos.
Some looters took to the streets under the banner #FreeJacobZuma.
Government and intelligence structures have since described the unrest as a failed insurrection.
