The group appeared in the Kenhardt Magistrate's Court on Friday, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said.
The matter was postponed to February 25 for a formal bail application.
Police received a tip-off on Tuesday about possible stock theft in the area.
Two suspects, including the officer, were found in a bakkie carrying six sheep.
Two others travelling in a VW Polo spotted the police and fled the scene.
They were stopped and arrested in Kakamas.
"It is... alleged that the two sheep that were loaded in the VW Polo were dropped off at the side of the road," Naidu said.
