COPE condemns Zuma’s support for Monyane

The Congress of the People (COPE) has condemned former
President Jacob Zuma for filing an affidavit in the Constitutional Court
(ConCourt) in support of controversial former South African Revenue Service
(SARS) boss, Tom Moyane.
Zuma filed the affidavit on Monday, stating that the Nugent Commission had no power to recommend the axing of Moyane.
COPE’s Dennis Bloem says the application by Zuma must be condemned.
"And can only be described as disgraceful and disgusting," says Bloem.
He adds the former president is exposing himself as the kingpin behind state capture.
"He will do everything in his powers to defend his foot soldiers."
In the affidavit, Zuma also clarified that it was him - and not his successor - who initiated the commission of inquiry into the South African Revenue Service.
However, the Commission was only implemented once President Cyril Ramaphosa took office.
The Nugent Commission’s interim report found that Moyane should be removed from office as he did not have the character of a person fit to lead the revenue service.
Moyane’s ConCourt application is to review the decision to establish the commission and set aside its recommendations.
Bloem says the party understands that Zuma is under extreme pressure to defend those he allegedly used to capture the state during his tenure as the president of the country.
