The organisation released its annual Analysis of Trends Act report for 2020 on Tuesday.

Researcher Melusi Ncala says some 2000 people blew the whistle during the first half of the year.

“The number of reports that we have received at this particular period compared to last year, we’ve received 400 more reports than last time.

“Above 55% of the reports of corruption that we received this year were gathered during the lockdown period following the National State of Disaster by the president.”

Between January and June, 13% of the complaints were related to the police, while municipal offices, schools, and traffic and licensing centres each account for 5%.

Rhe health sector accounted for 4% of the total number of complaints.

“The reports that we receive provide a snapshot of the graft that has manifested in every sphere of government, with the complicity of the private sector, and encompassing multiple sectors in our society,” says Ncala.

“The destruction wrought by corruption is silent but deadly, and it is most often the poorest in society who are brutalised by the actions of these corrupt individuals.”
