Costs for Sona postponement yet to be determined

This comes after Tuesday's announcement by the presiding officers that SONA has indefinitely been postponed due to possible disruptions. 

Parliamentary spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo says Parliament is looking into the matter. 

"The Speaker of the National Assembly has asked the acting secretary to look at the implications of the postponement including the financial implications whether there is going to be any loss as a result of this postponement."

"You will know that there is a budget that was announced regarding SONA so the costs cannot yet be quantified, but the acting secretary is looking into the matter so that we can know if there is any financial implication around our preparation," says Mothapo.

Last week, during a briefing on the state of readiness for SONA, Baleka Mbete announced SONA would be costing the taxpayer a total of R4 million.

Meanwhile the ANC says it will keep the media in the loop should any developments around President Jacob Zuma surface.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe says talks within the ANC are underway.

"There are currently fruitful and constructive talks. We are working towards making sure that as we meet next week, the NEC will emerge with one message that we will be able to communicate to the people of SA," says Mabe.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) called for a postponement of its meeting on Tuesday night, where it was expected that the Committee would debate President Zuma's exit.

However the NEC will still meet on 17 February 2018.
