Couple found dead in Kruger National Park hailed from Mossel Bay
Police in Limpopo have opened two murder cases following the discovery of two bodies in the Kruger National Park.
The bodies were found at Cross Corner, where the Levubu and Limpopo rivers meet inside the national park.
The victims, a couple from Mossel Bay, were identified as a 71-year-old white man and a white woman.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba, the couple arrived at the campsite on Sunday and were last seen on Wednesday morning at the Pafuri picnic site.
A search operation was launched after the pair failed to return.
“On Friday afternoon, the tourists discovered two bodies floating at Cross Corner on the banks of the Levubu River near the intersection of Limpopo river and immediately alerted the police.”
Mashaba said preliminary investigations showed that the male victim suffered stab wounds to the upper body, while the female victim sustained severe upper-body injuries allegedly caused by a sharp object.
Police also confirmed that the green Ford Ranger double cab believed to have been used by the victims is missing.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear at this stage, and the police have opened two counts of murder and hijacking for further investigation.”
Mashaba addedthat all available resources have been mobilised to track down and arrest those responsible.
The South African Police Service is continuing its investigation in partnership with Kruger National Park authorities.
