Nine Durban police officers have each been granted bail of R3000 in a local court.
The group appeared in the Durban Regional Court on Tuesday shortly after their arrest.
They were formally charged with multiple charges of murder, kidnapping, assault, torture, and defeating the ends of justice.
They are the latest suspects to be arrested in this case joining 10 others who were arrested last week.
“They will appear again in court on October 29th. IPID is going to arrest five more suspects and all suspects will appear in October,” said Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Grace Langa
At this stage, 19 cops are out on bail.
Langa says they will not divulge the details of the case until they all appear in court with the five who are yet to be arrested.
It is believed the nine were arrested following the death of 32-year-old Regan Naidoo.
Naidoo died after he was allegedly assaulted by police officers at the Chatsworth police station in Durban.
