Eldorado Park police officer Caylene Whiteboy has told the court that she was framed by her co-accused for the murder of 16-year-old Nathaniel Julies.
Whiteboy appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court for a bail hearing on Tuesday, alongside Simon "Scorpion" Ndyalvana and Foster Netshiongolo.
Whiteboy and Ndyalvana are facing four charges including premeditated murder, defeating the ends of justice, discharging a firearm in public and possession of illegal ammunition.
It also emerged in court that Ndyalvana has two prior convictions for assault and one conviction for malicious damage to property.
The pair faced off in court, pointing the finger at each other for the fatal shooting.
“The picture that she’s painting there is that she has been a victim of stress before. She suspects therefore that what happened at the scene, she was being framed by the colleagues because she was now handed a firearm loaded with live rounds, the same firearm that she had used earlier on at Freedom Park that she has successfully used rubber bullets with to disperse the crowds there“ said Whiteboy’s lawyer, Jeff Maluleke.
“When she was now told to take the firearm and scare of Nathaniel which she believed at the time she was firing, that she was scaring Nathaniel Julies off from the truck that was parked at the scene. She unbeknownst to her, when she fired she realised that the force and the pressure of the shotgun that it was no longer now loaded with rubber bullets but it was loaded with live rounds.”

Maluleka added Whiteboy confronted Ndyalvana and Netshiongolo at the scene.
“She became hysterical and screamed and said ‘What is basically happening here? Are you guys trying to frame me? Why did you give me the gun that is loaded with live rounds?’.”
Whiteboy is expected to plead not guilty.
The third cop, Netshiongolo faces two charges including being an accessory after the fact and defeating the ends of justice.
The exact circumstances of the shooting remain contested.
