Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Department of Education in Limpopo has been forced to temporarily close its head office after two staff members tested positive for Covid-19.
This comes as the virus ravages schools across the country, with the Department of Basic Education confirming on Tuesday that 775 schools are affected by Covid-19.
A total of 523 pupils and 1169 staff members have tested positive for the virus.
In Limpopo three schools have been affected, with three pupils and ten staff members contracting the virus.
Spokesperson for the Department of Education in Limpopo Tidimalo Chuene says one of the officials based at its head office is receiving treatment in hospital, while the other is under self-quarantine.
Chuene says all head office campuses are now closed to allow for cleaning and disinfecting to start.
"Officials based at head office are released to work from home until the project is completed. Actual return dates will be communicated in due course. The Department of Health has also been contacted to come and make an assessment of the workplace and advise accordingly.”
