‘Covid-19 has shown us flames’ – Ndabeni-Abrahams
Communications Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams believes the country has made significant progress in the move towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Ndabeni-Abrahams says the Covid-19 pandemic fast-tracked government’s adoption of digital solutions.
“Covid-19 has shown us flames in so much that as people are crying out there in tax space, we say it has presented us with the opportunity of leapfrogging directly to the digital society that we seek to build,” she told MPs on Wednesday.
“As a result, in response to the new normal the Department through its strategy is aligning itself with the digital skills for decent jobs for youth, unemployed and the global campaign.
Ndabeni-Abrahams said among the upcoming interventions to bridge the Covid-19 gap is the use of drones for the delivery of parcels in remote areas.
“As people can no longer wait for the post office to deliver services in terms of the times that we take and people complain of the pace when they need their parcels, the drone are here to make the intervention.
“These digital technologies can really help us bridge the divide when people cannot go to the areas of service, but the technologies can come there.”
