Covid-19, job creation govt’s main focus this year - Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa says government’s main focus this year will be the continued battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ramaphosa was speaking at the virtual celebrations of the Chinese New Year on Friday.


 


The virtual celebration was hosted by Chinese Ambassador to South Africa H.E Chen Xiaodong. 


 


Ramaphosa said the country will not only focus on ending the pandemic but reducing inequality and creating more jobs.  


 


"As we recover and rebuild in the wake of Covid-19, it is our wish that the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and South Africa will lead to mutual economic growth, development and common prosperity.

"Prosperity for ourselves, for our respective regions and the rest of the world. In the year ahead our focus will be ending the pandemic, alleviating poverty, reducing inequality and creating more jobs." 


 


Ramaphosa also thanked China for its support during the Covid-19 pandemic. 


"South Africa is grateful to the People's Republic of China for its support throughout the pandemic, in particular for working to ensure that Africa  has greater access to Covid-19 vaccines.


"The global recovery depends on everyone being vaccinated. We are only safe if everyone is safe.”
