#Covid19inSA: Just over 1000 new cases after first weekend of electronic vaccinations registrations

South Africa reported 1 089 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday evening.

This brings the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases for South Africa to 1 566 769, after the first week end during which everyone of 60 and older could register on the Department of Health’s Electronic Vaccination Data System.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says in his latest report there were 25 more Covid-19 related deaths, bringing the national death toll 53 736 deaths.
North West and Northern Cape recorded no new related fatalities.
“Today, 25 more COVID-19 related deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 6, Free State 8, Gauteng 4, Kwa-Zulu Natal 1, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 3, North West 0, Northern Cape 0 and Western Cape 3 which brings the total to 53 736 deaths.
“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased,” reads the statement.
The country’s recovery rate stands firm at 95%.
