Cronin, Nzimande talk about future of SACP leadership
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Deputy general secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP) Jeremy Cronin says he will not be available to return to his current position in the party.
Cronin addressed the media ahead of the SACP's 14th National Congress.
He says it was not an easy decision to make.
"It's time after 22 years in my Deputy General-Secretary position to step down and to do so confidently. I've seen the amazing emergence of younger comrades," Cronin says.
General secretary Blade Nzimande says the next six months are almost unpredictable, especially in the alliance.
"Do you change or not change leadership when the truck is going down a slippery slope at a high speed? Do you change? That is the issue," Nzimande says.
He believes they are not short of leaders in the party.
"There are these rolling [Gupta] email. We don't know who will be left standing once all these email are finished. We will be left standing," Nzimande adds.
