The Democratic Alliance has refuted claims that it requested help from the African National Congress to keep control of the City of Tshwane.

The DA remains in charge in Tshwane after it took over the city through council elections.

However, the Sunday Times is reporting that the government of local unity coalition of the ANC, EFF, ActionSA and other smaller parties has set its sights on Tshwane.

This after it successfully installed the ANC’s Dada Morero as mayor of Johannesburg last week.

“We haven’t approached them to keep control of Tshwane,” said DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga.

“We have asked to talk about the instabilities across the municipalities in Gauteng that have led to issues of service delivery, so there is no issue about us approaching them about Tshwane specifically.

“In Tshwane, we still have a majority that is holding through the coalition. We will see what happens, but so far there isn’t anything that suggests that there might be a threat coming to Tshwane soon. If that happens, we will deal with it when it happens.”

Last month, the DA said it would not vote in favour of any of the provincial budgets as they “are aimed at just spending and not improving the lives of people”.

The DA and ANC failed to come to a governance agreement in Gauteng due to differences over the number of portfolios each party should be given.
