DA to lay criminal charges against Mchunu
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Democratic Alliance will lay criminal charges against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu in Cape Town on Thursday.
The party has accused the minister of lying to Parliament earlier this year when he told the Portfolio Committee on Police that he did not know North West businessman Brown Mogotsi.
Mogotsi has been implicated in alleged political interference in police operations by KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
In a statement on Wednesday morning, Mchunu admitted to knowing Mogotsi, clarifying that he is just a comrade and not his associate.
Mkhwanazi made damning allegations linking Mchunu to alleged shady dealings with businessman Vusi ‘Cat’ Matlala, who has scored millions of rands in SAPS tenders.
On Tuesday, the ANC's secretary general, Fikile Mbalula, said Mchunu will appear before the party's integrity commission to state his case.
