DA takes the SABC to the BCCSA

Democratic Alliance has reported the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) for allegedly violating its Code of Conduct.
This follows the broadcast of Cyril Ramaphosa's speech as African National Congress president.
On Tuesday night, Ramaphosa went live on SABC News to announce that the ANC had resolved to amend the Constitution to allow the government to expropriate land without compensation.
The DA's Phumzile Van Damme says the party on Wednesday wrote to the Chairperson of the SABC board, Bongumusa Makhathini, requesting a right of reply for the DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, to respond on to the ANC's position on land.
"In his response, Makhathini refused to do so," says Van Damme.
She adds the party was left with no choice but to take the matter to the BCCSA.
"DA will not stand idly while efforts are made to recapture the SABC to be the ANC mouthpiece and not the public broadcaster."
