DA wants ‘immediate’ implementation of Tshwane ruling

The Democratic Alliance (DA) wants the immediate implementation of the high court ruling that overturned the decision to place Tshwane under administration.
The party said on Sunday that it will file papers in the High Court in Pretoria.
The same court ruled in favour of a DA application last month to overturn the provincial government's decision to dissolve the Tshwane council.
However, on Thursday the provincial government announced its intention to approach the Constitutional Court to appeal the high court ruling.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), in a separate application, put their name in the hat, seeking leave to appeal the high court judgment.
The DA’s Gauteng chair Mike Moriarty said the party has instructed its legal team to oppose the applications by the African National Congress (ANC) and the EFF.
"We will file papers to oppose the direct access to the Constitutional Court by both the ANC and the EFF. We will oppose the EFF's motion for leave to appeal in the Supreme Court of Appeal.
"But most significantly, tomorrow [Monday] we will file papers in the Gauteng North High Court. In this regard, we will ask the court to use rule 18 (3) to order that the judgment to overturn the dissolution of Tshwane Council be effective immediately.”
Moriarty added that the DA's believes municipalities should operate without fear of underhanded intervention from a provincial government.
