The accused were arrested in November 2024 and charged with three counts of fraud, three counts of theft, and conspiracy to commit fraud and theft.

In his last court appearance, SAFA boss Danny Jordaan's case was postponed due to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ failure to provide feedback on presentations from the defence.

In June, President Cyril Ramaphosa suspended the South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Andrew Chauke.

The state prosecutor on the case, Advocate Moagi Malebati, said Chauke was suspended before he could sign off on his decisions based on the feedback from the presentations by the defence.

Jordaan is accused of hiring a private security company for his own protection and a public relations company without authorisation from the SAFA board.

Jordaan, 73, is reported to have hired the public relations firm after his reputation took a knock when a South African singer and former lawmaker alleged in 2017 that he had sexually assaulted her 25 years previously. He denied the allegations.

Police said he was arrested "following an intensive investigation by the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation based in Johannesburg into allegations of R1.3 million fraud and theft. “

Jordaan has been SAFA president since 2013 and was elected for a third time in 2022.
