De Lille defends decision to dissolve the SA Tourism board

Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille has defended her decision to dissolve the SA Tourism board amid instability at the state entity.
The previous board was removed after it contravened its charter by holding a special board meeting not convened by the chairperson.
Two weeks ago, the board suspended Chief Executive Officer Nombulelo Guliwe for misconduct.
De Lille has since appointed an interim structure until a new board is appointed.
She said she dissolved the board following legal advice.
The minister briefed the media in Kempton Park on Monday.
"My decision to dissolve the board is based on legal advice by senior counsel and because I have warned the board before. No special meetings can be done without a chairperson," she said.
"I cautioned the board on their failure to follow governance procedures which undermines the integrity of the board and it could also render the outcomes or the decisions of such meetings procedurally invalid and unlawful."
De Lille confirmed that Guliwe remains suspended.
