LISTEN: Dead wild cat is a serval
The SPCA has confirmed that the cat found dead on Friday morning by Metro Police is not a tiger or cheetah, but a serval.
Metro Police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane says she received the call after 08:00.
The cat appeared to have been stabbed, she said.
Johannesburg SPCA spokesperson Jolene Delport cannot confirm the cause of death and have sent the cat to independent lab for a post-mortem report.
It remains unclear if the serval is the same one that went missing from the Rietvlei Nature Reserve near Pretoria.
