Delay in reopening of North West swimming pools
Updated | By OFM News
The reopening of a public swimming pool in the Potchefstroom-based JB Marks Local Municipality in North West has been delayed.
The municipality's spokesperson Jeanette Tshite says the Beyers Naudé Avenue swimming pool in Potchefstroom was to be opened last week, but could not due to the withdrawal of its lifeguards.
She adds the lifeguards withdrew because of a better job offers elsewhere.
She further indicated that the pool is ready for use, but due to safety measures and standards that require lifeguards to be on duty before members of the public can use it, the opening has been delayed.
Meanwhile, Tshite says repairs to fix a burst pipe at the Lakeside Dam swimming pool are under way, and it may open by 1 December.
The swimming pool had been closed to the public due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and according to Tshite, the municipality has been hard at work doing repairs where necessary.
