Digital Vibes saga: There’s more evidence we looking into, says SIU

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) says they are still looking into
more evidence, even though they have handed over the Digital Vibes report to
President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramphosa released the report on Wednesday, which points to corruption and financial mismanagement at the Department of Health.
“We had to look at where the contract started, all of that extensive work has been done. Even now, we are looking at some more evidence that has come our way, even after we have given the report to the president,” says SIU spokesperson Kazier Kganyago.
“What we are now doing is implementing the recommendations because one of the recommendations would then be to recover the money.”
He explains that in terms of retrieving any of the money related to the multi-million rand contract, the SIU need to follow court processes and only then would they able to act.
“Therefore, for you to recover the money there needs to be a process, and the process can only happen in the courts and the special tribunal is set in terms of legislation to do exactly that. “
“These processes don’t mean the report is not comprehensive. It has concluded already that the contract is legal, therefore we don’t just cancel it. It has to follow a judicial process for it to have an order that says the contract is set aside, and once it is set aside, we can recover the money.”
