Dirco monitoring Hong Kong protests
Updated | By Nokukhanya Mntambo
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) is monitoring the situation in Hong Kong where pro-democracy protesters flooded the city's airport.
This left one of the world's busiest hubs at a standstill.
South African Airways (SAA) suspended all its flights between Hong Kong and Johannesburg on Monday where several South Africans were expected to board.
"According to the Dirco officials in Hong Kong, they were just alerted to some of the South Africans that were affected by the closure of the airport," says Dirco spokesperson, Lunga Ngqengelele.
"It's just a matter of them being inconvenienced."

He confirmed that no South African had been reported injured during the protests.
"With the issue of Hong Kong, nothing was reported that needed us to really intervene in a way outside what we normally do."
