Dlamini lauds Zuma at Women's Day celebrations
Social Development minister Bathabile Dlamini has come under fire for using government's official Women's Day celebrations to defend President Jacob Zuma.
The celebrations took place in the Northern Cape, a day after the president survived a motion of no confidence in the National Assembly.
The vote was closer than most analysts expected, with several ANC MPs voting to remove President Zuma.
Dlamini told Zuma that he "has earnt leadership".
"You waited up until your turn came. You never pushed anyone and the question we have always asked ourselves is: What are these people afraid of?"
Dlamini also lauded President Zuma for the work he has done to uplift women.
"Since you became the president we have the women's ministry. We have a ministry of planning, monitering and evaluation.
"You have ensured that women are more in decision-making structures of government. But also, you have listened equally to each and everyone of us."
Dlamini told the thousands celebrating the day that President Zuma has not undermined or judged the country's women.
"And therefore we take courage from you," Dlamini said.
