Dlamini-Zuma: Inauguration costs cut in half
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Minister in the Presidency Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says the costs of the presidential inauguration has been cut in half when compared to the previous ceremony.
Dlamini-Zuma was speaking at a media briefing on the readiness of the presidential inauguration in Pretoria on Thursday.
“We all know that there is an economic difficulty in this country, and our budget we going to spend in this inauguration is more than a R100 million less”, she said.
President Jacob Zuma’s second and final inauguration ceremony cost close to R240 million.

Dlamini-Zuma added that the reason for changing the presidential inauguration venue is also due to economic difficulties, saying it would cost less to host the inauguration at Loftus Versfeld than at the Union Buildings.
“The other reason is that it is going to be an inclusive program with everyone witnessing everything at the same place at the same time.”

The inauguration is expected to take place at Loftus Versfeld on May 25.
