Dlamini's 'long walk' to the Union Buildings
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Former
University of Witwatersrand SRC president and Fees Must Fall activist Mcebo Dlamini has embarked on a protest walk from Johannesburg to the Union Buildings in
Pretoria on Friday.
This is to highlight the plight of #FeesMustFall students activists who are still facing charges relating to the protests in 2015 and 2016.
Dlamini says even though free higher education was implemented by former president Jacob Zuma, many of the activists who championed the movement are languishing in jail.
He adds people have forgotten about the fees activists "because the protests are no longer there."
Dlamini has urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to grant all the jailed activists amnesty.
"Ours is to speak to the consciousness of the leaders of this country, who at some point where student leaders who at the same time are parents. They must think about the young people's futures that are coming to an end before they begin."
