Earlier this week, KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala warned of severe thunderstorms for the province as mops operations continue from last month’s deadly floods.

This while emergency teams will also be on standby in Gauteng for wet weather conditions.

Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi pleaded with residents to keep close watch of heating devices amid fears of house fires as families try to keep warm.

“We will remain on high alert, monitoring all seven regions of the city, especially our informal since we know these are our most vulnerable communities,” Mulaudzi added.

But the bad weather won’t be the worst of resident’s problems.

Load shedding is also expected to persist throughout the weekend, including Friday evening.

Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha confirmed stage 2 load power cuts would be implemented on Saturday and Sunday.

“As previously communicated, due to the continued shortage of generation capacity Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 17:00 until 22:00 tonight. Load shedding will be repeated at the same time on Saturday and Sunday evenings,” said Mantshantsha.

Eskom has implemented rolling blackouts for five consecutive days, while it remains unclear when stability will return to the grid.
