Self-confessed rapist Nicholas Ninow used the first day of his trial on Monday, to describe the gruesome events of the rape in detail to the court when he entered his plea bargain.

He claimed that he penetrated the then 7-year old in the mouth and also used his fingers to penetrate her private parts.

The state has however rejected Ninow's plea explanation because "it differed from the version given to the complainant upon consultation," said NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.

"We thought that as a state it would be better to ventilate those issues in court. We believe by doing that, we will be adding value to our case and ensure that we tighten all screws."

On Tuesday, state prosecutor Dorah Ngobeni confirmed the girl will testify and added that it would take place in camera (behind closed doors) because she is a minor.

The ANC Women's League (WL) has not taken kindly to the fact that the young victim will be called to testify.

"The most disheartening thing is when a young kid has to be subjected to the rapist. The whole system now wants to bring her back to recount the events," said spokesperson Toko Xasa.
