Economist Dawie Roodt stabbed in Pretoria East home
Well-known economist Dawie Roodt was stabbed while protecting his daughter from four intruders in his Pretoria East home, Gauteng police said on Friday.
“It is alleged that Mr Roodt’s daughter was visiting [on Thursday evening] and as she came to the gate, she was confronted by four suspects.
Two suspects were armed with a panga and a revolver.
They forced her into the house where they tied up the family and demanded money,” spokeswoman Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said.
“Mr Roodt indicated that there was money in the car outside. As the suspects took him outside, there was loadshedding and Mr Roodt fought the suspects in the dark. During the fight he was hacked with a panga.”
Mogale said Roodt sustained injuries to his head and arm.
The four suspects fled the scene and Roodt was taken to hospital.
Mogale said investigations continue.
