Scores of EFF members protested outside Hoërskool Overvaal in Vereeniging on Wednesday morning.

The protesters are unhappy with the ruling by the High Court in Pretoria that the Afrikaans medium high school does not have the capacity to admit 55 English-speaking pupils.

EFF convener Azwi Tshitangano says refusal to admit black people on the basis of language is merely a smokescreen.

Tshitangano also vowed that the party will not stop protesting until Hoërskool Overvaal do away with its "white supremacy" policies.

Stun grenades and rubber bullets were fired in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

Gauteng police's Lungelo Dlamini says ten protestors were arrested and two others were injured.

"It was the protesters and the people inside the school, and something was thrown into the crowd outside and then the crowd retaliated. It's when the police had to fire stun grenades."

The EFF is adamant the protest will continue until the English learners are admitted to the school.

"We are going to fight by any means necessary. We are not going to say we support the Department of Education because they also part and parcel of this problem. Twenty-three years after apartheid, and we still find that our people are being discriminated against," says Tshitangano.
