EFF councillor Moshe Mphahlele killed during protest in Alexandra

An EFF councillor in the City of Johannesburg, Moshe Mphahlele, was shot and killed during a protest in Alexandra on Sunday.

Mphahlele was allegedly shot during a confrontation with officers of the Johannesburg metro police and private security.
The 39-year-old was also the party's regional secretary in Johannesburg.
According to police, Mphahele was shot when law enforcement officers were trying to remove people who had illegally occupied flats in Marlboro.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said they are investigating a case of murder.
"Police received information about a man who was shot and taken to the local clinic. Upon arrival at the clinic, police were shown the body of a man who had a gunshot wound.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim, who was a community leader, was shot when the members of JMPD and private security officers were removing people who allegedly occupied the private containers in Bramley.
"Police have opened a case of murder for investigation,” he added
The EFF in Gauteng said it would release a statement on Monday afternoon.
