Eleventh suspect charged with Moses Mabhida riot
An eleventh person has been charged for his alleged involvement in a riot at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban in April, which saw spectators wreak havoc after Kaizer Chiefs lost to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup semi-final.
Security guards were hurt and damage worth millions of rands was caused to property and equipment.
Scores of people stormed the pitch after Kaizer Chiefs lost the match. Several fires were also started in the stadium, while seats were also ripped from the stands and hurled onto the playing area.
Angry supporters were also shown on live television kicking and assaulting security officials.
Dennis Nyembe joined 10 others in the dock at the Durban Regional Court on Tuesday.
The case has been adjourned for a pre-trial conference.
The group is due back before a magistrate in early August.
In the meantime, the state will be furnishing the defence with witness statements, video footage and an amended charge sheet.
