Enock Mpianzi family suing govt for R10m
The family of the late Parktown Boys’ High School pupil Enock Mpianzi is suing the Gauteng Department of Education for R10 million.
The 13- year-old drowned during a Grade 8 orientation camp at Nyati Bush and River Break Lodge near Brits in January.
The Gauteng Department of Education released a forensic report in March implicating five teachers, the headmaster and the lodge in the drowning.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said on Monday that a formal letter has been sent to Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga.

"You are quite aware, after the report on Enock Mpianzi, we received a letter from his legal representative about a potential action they would take. Indeed we received a formal letter last week.
“It was addressed to the minister and copied us as the province where the legal team of the late Enock Mpianzi the legal firm and the family are demanding R10 million from the department.”
Lesufi said the department will not be opposing the matter.
"We have indicated that we have no appetite to oppose this matter.
“So we have allowed our legal team to continue to engage with the legal firm representing the family so that we use previous court cases that have ruled in the matter for this nature as a barometer to determine the amount.”
