‘Enough is enough’ - Numsa endorses SAFTU strike
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has endorsed the plans for a national strike by the South African Federation of Trade Union’s (SAFTU).
The national stay-away is set to take place next week Wednesday, the same day as the tabling of the budget by Finance Minister Tito Mboweni.
Numsa spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says the time has come for workers to stand up and fight back.
“We have no choice, we must fight back. We must unite as the working class and withhold our labour on the 24th of February to send a message that enough is enough.

“The SAFTU national strike taking place next Thursday is a protected strike under Section 77. That means every worker, regardless of union affiliation, whether you are organised or unorganized has a right to go on strike and there is nothing the employer can do about it.
“It is a legally protected strike for all workers. We must mobilise or else we will continue to suffer.
The trade union federation is striking over what it says is an increase in unemployment, poverty and corruption.
