Eskom and unions to meet at CCMA
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Eskom has roped in the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) to facilitate talks between the power utility and three unions in an attempt to reach a wage agreement.
Negotiations between the power utility and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and Solidarity have reached a deadlock.
The parties have also not been able to reach an agreement on the payment of bonuses.
The power utility was also supposed to give feedback to the unions on their latest wage proposal on Friday but this has now been brought forward following the implementation of stage one rotational load shedding on Tuesday .
The blackouts have been blamed on what Eskom has described as sabotage by disgruntled workers at several of its power stations.
Eskom's deputy spokesperson Dikatso Mothae says the power utility hopes to solve the impasse as soon as possible.
Mothae says the talks are expected to start on Wednesday morning.
