Eskom diesel procurement probe extended to end of August
Eskom has extended its independent investigation into possible irregularities in the procurement of diesel fuel and storage contracts until the end of August.

The legal analysis was expected to be completed by July 31st.
Spokesperson Daphne Mokoena said that further document analysis and interpretation, supplementary interviews, and consideration of the identified legal aspects of contract management are required.
“While we had envisaged that the legal analysis would be completed by July 31, due to the volume and complexity of the analysis required, a further and final update will be issued by no later than August 31. The legal analysis being undertaken is critical to support any eventual action relating to this investigation,” Mokoena said.

She says disciplinary action continues against the identified procurement officials.
In May, Eskom reported that it had spent R469.24 million on diesel between 1 April and 7 May 2026, to generate over 55 000 MWh of electricity in five weeks.
Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said the use of diesel-fired generation during March was driven by the need to meet contractual obligations requiring a minimum load factor of 1% for the Independent Power Producer open-cycle gas turbines over the six months ending 31 March.
