Eskom to ease load shedding slightly over weekend
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Eskom says load shedding will be reduced to stage 3 on Saturday due to lower weekend demand.
Stage 3 will be in place from 5am to 4pm, whereafter stage 5 will kick in from 5am on Sunday.
This will be followed by Stage 4 from 5am until 4pm on Sunday when stage 6 will make a return.
Spokesperson Daphne Mokoena says the utility's breakdowns are currently at 18 713MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 3 222MW.
"During the last 24 hours, a generating unit each at Hendrina, Kriel and Lethabo power stations has returned to service.
"In the same period, a generation unit each at Kendal, Kriel, Medupi and Tutuka power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns.
"In addition, the delay in returning units to service at Arnot, Kendal and Matla power stations continues to add to the current capacity constraints. The team is working around the clock to ensure that generating units are returned to service as soon as possible.”
