This follows the implementation of Stage 4 loadshedding on Monday morning.

The power giant explained that this reduction comes after the successful recovery of eight out of ten generation units, restoring 3 808 MW from units that tripped over the weekend.

An additional 1 146 MW is expected to be recovered overnight.

While progress has been made in replenishing emergency reserves, Eskom warns that further replenishment is needed to reach adequate levels.

“These positive developments support our ongoing focused efforts to stabilise the power supply and ensure reliability,” said Eskom’s national spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena.

Currently, unplanned outages are at 13 690 MW, which is 690 MW higher than the summer outlook base case of 13 000 MW.

“Ongoing planned maintenance stands at 7 245 MW, in alignment with our summer period maintenance strategy, that is at increased levels in order to prepare for winter and meet license and regulatory requirements,” added Mokwena.

Eskom will provide the next update later on Tuesday, or as soon as any significant changes occur.
