An Eskom employee has been arrested after he was caught by security personnel stealing transformer oil and power safety solvent gel.
The employee was trying to exit the premises in Rosherville, Johannesburg with three drums of oil and six containers of power safety solvent gel.
The incident happened on Thursday last week.
He appeared in court on Monday on a charge of theft.
Eskom Gauteng manager Kith Maitisa says the man will also be subjected to internal disciplinary processes.
“We are disappointed that one of our own is implicated in the alleged theft. Eskom remains committed to resource optimisation where we ensure that all material is channeled to its intended use. We will continue to heighten efforts to curb material loss and any criminal acts by anyone, including our employees.
“Eskom is committed to working with law enforcement agencies to curb electricity-related criminal activities, including all forms of theft, even in cases where our employees are involved,” says Maitisa.
