Eskom says it hopes its latest wage offer will bring an end to the impasse.

NUM and NUMSA will return to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) to continue their wage talks with Eskom on Wednesday.

The power utility is confident that light will be at the end of the tunnel following talks which have been dragging on since June.

Trade union Solidarity has already accepted the latest wage offer of a 7.5% increase for this year, 7% for the following two years and a once-off payment of R10 000.

"We appreciate the fact that one of the unions has accepted the offer. Hopefully it will give confidence to the other members to also do the same, but it has to be understood that all the unions are independent from one another," says spokesperson, Khulu Phasiwe.

Eskom has since activated its 30-day recovery plan to stabilise the power grid.

Last week saw protesting preventing coal trucks from entering or exiting power stations resulting in power cuts.

"We have put an offer on the table, the assumption is that we are only going to discuss that but remember the talks are facilitated by the CCMA so what we know is that we are receiving feedback from what is on the table," explains Phasiwe.
