Eskom – If you don’t service your car, it will break down
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Struggling power utility Eskom has blamed inadequate maintenance at its power stations for the fresh load of rolling blackouts.
Stage 2 load-shedding is expected to be implemented until 23:00 on Saturday evening.
“We are seeing a lot of breakdowns in terms of the power station units as a result the system is quite unreliable and unpredictable,” says spokesperson Dikatso Motae.
The cash strapped SOE referenced a car analogy to explain the dire situation.
Motae says they are also monitoring wet coal due to widespread rainfall in South Africa but “the bigger issue is the unplanned outages”.
Eskom had to implement stage 4 load-shedding on Friday.
“The issue around not having done maintenance on the power station units over many years and it led to the units not performing optimally.”
