Eskom: No load shedding expected this weekend

Eskom says it doesn’t expect that it will be necessary to implement any load shedding this weekend.

The power utility rolled blackouts all of last week and some of this week following reduced generating capacity.

Eskom now says it will be able to keep the lights on at the weekend, despite its system being “constrained and vulnerable”.

“Eskom is pleased to inform the public that no load shedding is expected for this weekend due to lower demand and the improvement in the available generation capacity,” says spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.

But Mantshantsha warns that the prospects of load shedding could increase at short notice.

“While this is the case, Eskom would like to remind the public that the system remains constrained and vulnerable, and should there be any significant breakdowns, load shedding may have to be implemented at short notice.

“Eskom will continue to communicate should there be any further changes.”
