Embattled power utility Eskom will intensify load shedding to stage 3 from Monday afternoon.
Eskom managed to ease the planned power cuts to stage 1 on Sunday.
“Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00 on Monday followed by Stage 3 load shedding until 05:00 on Tuesday," says Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.
“On Tuesday and Wednesday stage 1 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 until 16:00 and stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until 05:00."
Breakdowns have increased to 15 777MW of generating capacity while 6 122MW of generating capacity is out of service for planned maintenance.
The power utility says over the past 24 hours three generation units were returned to service at Duvha, Kendal and Kriel power stations.
“A generating unit at Kendal, Kriel and Majuba power stations were taken offline for repairs. The delays in returning units to service at Duvha, Hendrina, Kriel, Majuba, Medupi and Tutuka power stations continue,” says Mokwena.
