Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Several areas are without power in Randfontein on the West Rand, where Eskom says a transformer caught alight at one of it's substations.
"The transformer caught fire at around 8 am this morning (Saturday morning) and at this point in time we don't know the cause of the fire," says Eskom's maintenance and operations senior manager in Gauteng, Motlhabane Ramashi.
Affected areas include the Randfontein Municipality, Randfontein Industries, and Azaadville.

"At this point in time, we don't know when power will be restored as we are waiting for the fire brigade to extinguish the fire and we will then go in to asses the damage," says Ramashi
.
He says the duration of power restoration will depend on the extent of the damage to the transformer.
