eThekwini will move to level 4 of the lockdown - Zikalala

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says the eThekwini district will move to level 4 of the lockdown on Friday.

Zikalala addressed members of the media in Durban on Wednesday morning. 


At the weekend, the premier said the municipality would need to remain under strict regulations if the number of coronavirus infections kept rising. 


To date more than 570 people have contracted the virus In eThekwini.

Zikalala said several sectors will reopen on Friday, but the regulations attached to level 4 will be strictly enforced. 


"Ethekwini is going to be part of those that are opening up some sectors. It means we will be part of level four, but that means that all regulations that are still attached will be implemented strictly.


"It means in transport, we will need to look on whether people have masks and people are protected and there is social distancing.”


He added: “Today, we will be interacting with business communities, especially the big companies. We will be talking to CEO's on the issue of, how ready are they for the opening.”


The KZN provincial government  received a donation of 10 mobile COVID-19 testing vehicles on Wednesday.


They' will be used to test around 120 people a day and 20 000 a month and will be deployed to different parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
