Fadiel Adams to remain behind bars until Wednesday
National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on fraud and justice obstruction charges linked to the Sindiso Magaqa murder investigation, as police defended the Political Killings Task Team probe.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe has welcomed the postponement of National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams bail at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal.
Adams faces charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice in the 2017 murder investigation of ANC councillor Sindiso Magaqa.
The member of Parliament was earlier formally charged in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal.
Adams remains at an undisclosed location ahead of his bail application on Wednesday.
His attorney, Bruce Hendricks, told the court that Adams is not a flight risk.

Speaking outside court, Mathe said the police have a strong case and are verifying addresses as the political killings task team makes significant arrests and convictions nationwide.
“His motive, perhaps, was to discredit the work of the Political Killings Task Team. It was to undermine the ongoing investigations into a very sensitive case. We have been investigating that particular case since 2018. So far, we are quite happy with the outcome.”
The National Coloured Congress leader arrived in Durban on Wednesday night following his arrest in Cape Town on Tuesday.
Speaking on Tuesday, Adams claimed he had indicated his willingness to cooperate.
“I told Parliament that Sindiso Magaqa was killed with an AK-47 purchased with the proceeds of Crime Intelligence. The head of Crime Intelligence is Dumisani Khumalo, but I informed them of it a year ago.”
