Father under police guard in hospital for 'energy drink poisoning'
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Gauteng police have confirmed that the father who gave his five children an energy drink before school has also been hospitalised.
Three of the siblings have since died after apparently drinking the energy drink given to them by their father on Thursday.
The boys, aged 6, 13, and 16, were pupils at Ratanda Primary and Khanya Lesedi Secondary Schools in Ratanda, south of Heidelberg.
Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says they are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
"The police proceeded to the siblings’ home but on arrival, they found the boys’ father unconscious in the house. He was taken to hospital under police guard as it is alleged that he might be involved in the alleged poisoning of his children. The police will await the post-mortem results which will determine the exact cause of death."
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi will visit both schools and the family on Friday.
